THEATRICAL TEAMSTERS LOCAL 817 established the TEAMSTERS LOCAL 817 POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE (PAC) FUND to support candidates and legislative and administrative agendas for the interests of the members of LOCAL 817.

 

Labor organizations funded by members’ dues are prohibited from contributing to the campaigns of candidates for office.  Most prominent labor organizations have established separately segregated funds (commonly known as a PAC) which may make voluntary campaign contributions to candidates. The law expressly allows unions to solicit voluntary contributions from members for their PACs.

 

It is time for the LOCAL 817 members to become more involved in shaping of legislative and administrative process.  Politicians play increasingly important roles in our industry.  For too long, PAC’s of major entertainment corporations such as film and television production corporations, motion picture exhibitors, theatrical production and trade show industry companies have been the only entertainment industry contributors to candidates.  The concerns and interests of LOCAL 817 members must also be heard and considered by lawmakers.

 

We ask that you, your family members and friends contribute $99 to the TEAMSTERS LOCAL 817 PAC for the calendar year.  The TEAMSTERS LOCAL 817 PAC screens all contributions for compliance with this restriction. Contributors must be United States citizens or lawful permanent residents of the United States.  The TEAMSTERS LOCAL 817 PAC may not accept contributions from corporate accounts.
