Photoville Festival 2025 update!

Thank you everyone who submitted work for the Photoville Festival! I have been receiving inquiries on where we are in the selection process. This is not an easy task; 23 members sent in their best work and personally I am blown away by the quality of these images. Well done everyone! We still need to make the final selections to be submitted to Photoville, which will curate the selection.

We will announce the finalists after the artists are made aware. Since we are submitting 60-75 images it might take some time to speak with everyone first, so your patience is appreciated.

Once we submit the images we will be having meetings with Photoville, who will only be using 15-20 images in their final edit. Schedule below.

As a reminder of how we did this:

How we did this:

  • L817 collected the artwork (shareable example sizes please), email examples and/or links to folder: dwelch@local817.com

  • L817 then gave each candidate’s folder a random number to assure anonymity

  • The renamed folder was shared with L817 members Malaika Johnson and Sarah Crofts for final selection

  • Received submissions was by February 28th, 2025

Ideal criteria was:

  • Shareable examples of work (email-friendly, less than 2000 pixels wide), larger originals if requested (ideal up to 4000 pixels wide or greater)

  • Recognizable Made in New York Productions and/or city owed property

  • Represents diverse backgrounds

  • And/or diverse neighborhoods within NYC

  • Ability to participate in a public educational panel opening day June 7 in Dumbo to discuss their work and career as a locations department worker

The exhibition will feature our members and Photoville will pay an artist’s stipend as well as support the development, curation, printing, installation and final exhibition. The exhibition will be featured outdoors in a selected park in NYC.
